  • Welcome back Panthers!

    August 12, 2020

    Dear Panther Families,

Welcome back!  We’ve missed you.  Please forgive us for the delay in information, as we’ve been working feverishly to transition to a completely distance learning model.  We’ve put together a packet with pertinent information that will help students and families get an excellent start to the year, and have included a schedule for pick-up of Chromebooks, texts, supplies, and individual student schedules next week.  These packets are included in email communication and will be available in hard copy during pick-ups.

Sixth graders will pick-up the above items on Monday, August 17 between 8:00AM - 1:00PM.  Seventh graders will pick-up items on Tuesday, August 18 between 8:00AM - 1:00PM, and eighth graders will pick-up items Thursday, August 20 between 9:00AM and 1:00PM.  Please adhere to the pick-up schedule which breaks grade levels down by the hour in alphabetical order so that we can be as safe as possible (practicing social distancing and conducting a wellness check to include questions, temperature checks, etc.).  Please remember masks must be worn; no exceptions.

In getting ready for the first day of online classes which begin Wednesday, August 26, please be cognizant that though school will be different than what we are used to, education is still vital to our students’ current well-being and future.  While we are adapting and making changes in certain areas, attendance and grading will be conducted more traditionally.  Students must  attend and participate during online sessions to be counted present, and courses must be passed satisfactorily in order to be promoted to the next grade level.  Students who do not attend classes will be required to go through the Student Attendance Review Board.  Letter grades will be awarded to students based on the quality of work submitted.  This is a big change from the end of last year.  While we are cognizant of and planning to be as emotionally supportive as possible during an unprecedented time, Carquinez Middle School is doing our best to provide the highest quality education possible as well.

As noted above, our teachers and staff are working diligently to prepare for every Panther, especially our newest Panthers arriving from Rodeo Hills Elementary.  We will leave no Panther behind!  While everyone is gifted differently, everyone is capable of being successful here at Carquinez Middle School.  As the great Arthur Ashe once stated, “Start where you are.  Use what you have.  Do what you can.” This is where we are as Panther Nation, and JSUSD.  We are where we are during this Covid crisis, but we have a great community with great schools, staff, and students, and we are going to do the very best we can to support one another, care for one another, learn together, and be successful together.

We can’t wait to see you.  Have a great rest of the week, and go Panthers!

    Steve Peters, Principal
