Ms. Rebecca Harris

Hello students and families of John Swett High School! I am thrilled to welcome all my students to my Biology and Anatomy & Physiology courses for the 2021-22 school year.

I have always loved science and decided early in my education that I wanted to pursue a graduate degree in Ecology. Ecology opened many doors for me: it brought me from the coastal bluffs of Santa Barbara, to the forests of Costa Rica, to the beaches of Hawai'i, and finally to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. During my graduate studies, I discovered my love of teaching while coteaching in middle and elementary school as an NSF GK-12 Fellow. I pivoted toward becoming a science teacher rather than a researcher. After teaching and serving as a volunteer for 5 years in a tiny community in rural Utah, I returned home to California and joined the team at John Swett, where I teach Biology, AP Biology, and Honors Anatomy & Physiology.

My classes focus on hands on labs and activities, critical thinking, current research, and data analysis. Above all, I would like students to come away with a deeper understanding of the natural world and a stronger ability to analyze scientific information that impacts their lives.

Outside of school, I spend as much time backpacking and hiking as possible, but when I am home I relax by cooking and reading.
