What Is AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems that can perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence—such as recognizing patterns, making decisions, and learning from data. It’s already part of everyday tools like search engines, recommendation systems, and voice assistants.

Generative AI, a subset of AI, goes a step further by creating new content—like text, images, music, or code—based on patterns it has learned.

JSUSD Guiding Principals for Student AI Use

Important AI Reminders

Protect student privacy — never share personal or identifying information with AI tools unless they’re approved for district use.

Use AI responsibly — choose tools that reflect our district’s values and support learning.

Be transparent — let students and families know when and how AI is being used.

Model digital citizenship — guide students to use AI ethically, think critically about AI outputs, and understand the importance of respectful and safe online behavior.
